Port of Koper strengthens its role in fresh produce imports

The Port of Koper, located on the Adriatic, is becoming an increasingly important entry point for fresh produce from the Eastern Mediterranean – particularly Egypt – which is then distributed to various European markets. Despite high activity levels at the Container Terminal in the past season, the port continues to ensure high-quality service thanks to close cooperation between the Container and Reefer Terminals and the professionalism of the port community. This year’s grape season has outperformed the previous one, and the port is preparing for even larger volumes of perishable goods. Major investments are underway, including the renovation of the cooling system at the Reefer Terminal and the construction of a new phytosanitary inspection facility that will double sampling capacity and accelerate control procedures. The new facility is expected to be operational at the beginning of 2027. Expansion of the Container Terminal, including a new berthing facility, is also in progress and scheduled for completion in 2028. These developments will further enhance the port’s capacity and efficiency. Koper continues to strengthen its strategic position as a key gateway to Central and Eastern European markets, with steady growth in container throughput. Representatives of the Port of Koper and local freight forwarders will also attend the Fruit Attraction trade fair in Madrid, where they will be available to discuss new cooperation opportunities and present the advantages of the port.
